Know When It’s Time For Cleaning & Repairs With Our Thorough Level I, II, And III Chimney Inspections

If your chimney needed a cleaning, repair, reline, or other important services, would you know? What about if you had a chimney leak or a creosote-coated smoke chamber?  The reality is, much of your chimney system is hidden from everyday view, and without a thorough inspection, it could be months or even years before you discovered a problem — which could potentially mean costly repairs, a rebuild, or even a chimney fire.

Here at Robinson Maintenance Repair, we are committed to educating our customers on fire safety, and making it easy for our customers to maintain their chimneys, fireplaces, and venting systems, and we know that annual chimney inspections play a huge role. As they say, knowing is half the battle. Our team is here to make sure you stay in the know with your chimney system so you can make informed decisions for the safety and comfort of you family and the preservation of your chimney system and home.

As Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) certified chimney professionals, we adhere to all National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and state and local codes, and we provide level I, II, and III chimney inspections to homeowners throughout Chicagoland. Here’s what you need to know about each and when you may need to schedule a professional chimney inspection.

  • Level I — Level I safety inspections are designed to give you an overview of your system, and are included with every chimney sweeping. These are the most basic inspections and are recommended when you’ve kept up with maintenance and you plan on using your system exactly as you’ve always used it. That means, no changes in fuel type, appliance, flue liner, or use. During a level I inspection, our team will perform a visual inspection of your fireplace, smoke chamber, damper, flue, and the exterior of your chimney — including the crown or chase cover, the cap, the flashing, and the masonry or chase.
  • Level II — Level II chimney inspections are designed to provide a deeper look into the chimney system, which is why they’re recommended during a real estate transaction, after a chimney fire, when relining the chimney, when a defect is found, and whenever any other changes are made to the system and its use. During a level II inspection, we perform a video scan of the interior of the chimney flue to assess the condition of the chimney liner and identify any buildup, blockages, cracks, missing mortar joints, or other damage. We also look at everything we look at during a level I inspection, as well as any easily accessible areas of the chimney in crawl spaces or attic spaces.
  • Level III — Level III chimney inspections can involve the removal of portions of the building or chimney structure, and are really only recommended when there’s no other way to access the damaged areas or the areas in need of inspection.
